NIT hostel inaugurated

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today inaugurated a boys' hostel for the students of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur at its Langol campus today.
Education Minister M Okendro and NIT Manipur Board of Governors Director Chairman Prof YS Rajan and NIT Manipur Director S Birendra also attended the inauguration function as president and guest of honour respectively.
The hostel, which has 80 rooms will accommodate around 150 students.
Foundation stone for the said hostel, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs12 crore, was laid on August 29 last year.
Speaking at the occasion, Okram Ibobi said that it is fortunate for the people of Manipur that a boys' hostel for the students of NIT has been changed into reality.
Saying that the State Government is giving equal treatment to both hill and valley areas with regard to development activities, O Ibobi said that enhancement of human resource development, health, communication, power and public health engineering sectors is in the top priority of the State Government.
Saying that special schemes would be worked out in hill areas, Ibobi announced that necessary process for setting up of an IIIT at suitable location in hill area has been completed.
Seeking cooperation from the general public with regard to smooth execution of development projects, Ibobi urged all not to give any type of hindrance in development activities.
M Okendro while speaking at the occasion said that construction of different blocks have already commenced in 350-acre NIT campus.
Saying that many students are also pursuing courses in NIT Manipur, he also expressed hope that students from Myanmar would also come to Manipur for education in the institute.
