Imphal, December 20 2024: Calling for unconditional release of six village volunteers arrested in connection with the Salungpham firing incident, Khurai Lamlong Apunba Nupi Lup staged a sit-in protest today at Khurai Lamlong Keithel.

The protestors held placards with messages which read "We condemn killing of village volunteer", "Release arrested village volunteers", "Punish police commandos responsible for the death of a village volunteer" and "Repeal AFSPA 1958" among others.

Decrying the killing of Laishram Prem on December 14 in police firing, Wahengbam Ongbi Ibechaobi, secretary, Khurai Lamlong Apunba Nupi Lup, stated that village volunteers have protected the State during the ongoing conflict even when Central and State forces failed to do so.

Referring to the Salungpham firing, she questioned if there is a hidden agenda to divert public attention from the State's failure to trace the whereabouts of Laishram Kamalbabu and lack of arrests in the Jiribam killings.
