With a vision to make Manipur self-sufficient in agricultural produces, the Irabot Foundation has been distributing rabi crop seeds to farmers for cultivation in paddy fields which are lying bare after harvesting paddy.
Under the initiative of the Irabot Foundation, extensive fields are being cultivated with mustard (M-27 variety) for extracting oil and also other vegetables in different places including Heikrujam, Ngairangbam, Yairipok Yambem, Sekmai, Wabagai, Tronglaobi, Saiton, Moirang, Ngangkhalawai etc.
At Heikrujam in Imphal West district, the Foundation has been assisting in cultivation of mustard in 50 hectares under the supervision of the Oilseed Development Officer of the Department of Agriculture.
Another 50 hectares has also been planted with mustard for extracting oil in Ngairangbam.
Moreover, about 15 paris have been cultivated with peas and another 50 paris with potato.
All these vegetable farms were inspected today by a team comprising of members of the Irabot Foundation, plant protection specialist of KVK Wangbal Dr M Thoithoi, AO K Ramanand and others.
