Imphal, June 29 2018:
Taking serious view of the demands of Manipur University students and teachers, MPP has demanded resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey on moral ground.
Speaking to media persons at their Mapal Kangjeibung office today, MPP president O Jugindro said that BJP which is in power both in the State and at the Centre should see that Prof Pandey is dismissed at the earliest in case he refuses to resign on moral ground.
He said that Manipur University can be assumed as enjoying the same category as Benaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University and Delhi University which are listed under Entry No 63 of Schedule VII of the Indian Constitution.
The Central Government and the State Government should ensure that academic career of around 55,000 students studying in technical, non-technical and medical colleges affiliated to Manipur University and 3000 students studying in the university are not derailed, Jugindro said.
As per the Manipur University Act 2005, all the activities of the university should be carried out after annual court sitting is held, executive council adopts resolutions, audit report, annual report and annual account are passed.
Even though there should be two court sittings between 2016 and 2018, there has been no court sitting till date.
On the contrary, Prof Pandey has been boldly claiming that he introduced smart classes in all departments.
He has been acting so haughtily because BJP is in power both at the Centre and in the State, said the MPP president.
Arrangements were being made to observe Patriots' Day August 13 in 1972 with the then MPP president Md Alimuddin and Education Minister Yumnam Yaima.
However, the Union Home Ministry sent a telegram asking the Chief Minister to stay away from the Patriots' Day observation on the pretext that it was being organised by some elements who were plotting to disintegrate India.
But Alimuddin tore the telegram's copy and challenged the Central Government.
Not only did he take part in the Patriots' Day observation but August 13 was also declared a general holiday for the first time, Jugindro recounted.
Incumbent Chief Minister N Biren need to emulate the boldness of former Chief Minister Alimuddin and act in accordance with the pulse of the masses, added the
MPP president.
