The famed Loktak Lake is set to add a feather to its crown, if the objective of the State Government to set up a Regional Centre for Water Sports at this lake is anything to go by.
Towards this end, YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam has written to his counter parts of the seven NE States as well as Sikkim seeking their suggestions and inputs.
Speaking to The Sangai Express the YAS Minister said that the proposed regional water sports centre will come up at Takmu water sports complex which was constructed for the Vth National Games held in Manipur.
The North Eastern Council will be approached to forward the required funds for setting up the water sports centre, informed the Minister and added that officers from the YAS Department of the other North Eastern States will be welcome to come and see the proposed site as well as the centre.
Stating that Loktak offers the ideal spot for the regional water sports centre to come, Govindas said that such a centre will benefit all sports persons of the North East region.
The State Government has set its eyes on upgrading the water sports complex to the standard of a regional and National water sports centre, said the Minister and added that plans are afoot to train coaches of water sports.
Invitations will be extended to sportspersons of other parts of India, said Govindas adding that the latest equipments by the YAS Department.
Training for coaches as well as hiring charges of the equipments will be free, informed the Minister.
