Imphal, August 20:
While Churachandpur town has remained more or less calm throughout the last one month even as large scale agitations and strikes rages in and around Imphal city and till today, the collateral damage of the turmoil all around is increasingly felt in the everyday life of the common man here, especially from the beginning of this week.
The telephone STD line connecting the town with the rest of the country has been non functional since Monday and remain un-repaired till today.
All PCOs and internet shops downed their shutters during this period.
A group of news reporters who enquired about it were told by the JTO/ CCpur telephone exchange that there is a separate JTO/ SDO looking after the STD line and the matter is beyond his duty and knowledge.
The ongoing strikes at Imphal and elsewhere is further complicating things, he added.
The mobile phone service has also been down all week, except for local calls.
Many people had gone to Kwakta village during the period to make STD calls to outside the state, sources said.
The electricity power supply had also visibly deteriorated during the week.
The power output, even when it is on, is so low that it is useless for most purposes.
Some televisions sets and other electronic instruments are also reportedly damaged due to low and erratic power supply.
To top it all, all passenger buses and the entire traffic along the all-important Tedim line remained suspended since Monday causing untold miseries to daily wage earners, office goers and school children.
Stock of many essential commodities, including pan leaves, are also running low.
However, traffic along all other roads starting from Lamka like Guite line and Sugnu line etc.
