JCCK movement urges State Govt

The Joint Committee Cinema Kanba (JCCK) movement has appealed to the State Government to introduce a policy for Manipuri films for its development.
Ningthouja Lancha, a spokesperson of the committee said in a press meet held at the Manipur press club, Imphal that a proposed policy draft was submitted to the State Government ten years ago.
The draft has not been passed till date.
He further asserted that due to the non-availability of a film policy in Manipur, film productions in the State are under great adversities.
The Manipuri film industry has been facing difficulties during film censorship, previewing films, marketing and financing process.
The Manipuri Film Development Corporation and Cine workers are having a hard time working together, he added.
Ningthouja Lancha also mentioned five points agenda of an open forum on 'Manipuri Cinema' which was held yesterday at the Leimarol Artist Centre, Singjamei, Imphal.
The five agendas of the open forum which was attended by the civil society leaders of Manipur, academicians and Cine workers were based on crisis related to cinema in Manipur, Manipuri cinema and film forum Manipur, developing Manipuri cinema and Manipuri film development corporation, economy of Manipuri cinema and film censors for Manipuri cinema.
After a detailed discussion on the agendas, the open forum resolved various steps for the betterment of Manipuri cinema.
He urged the Manipuri film development corporation and the Film Forum Manipur to monitor authenticity of the stories or events picturised in the movies like Tango Charlie and the recent buzz, Mary Kom.
Not all scenes or stories depicting the indigenous culture of Manipur in such movies are true, he added.
Further, in his statement he said that while previewing a film, if an artist or a scene does not depict anything that harms other communities or religion then the cinematic expansion of the film should not be broken as an artist expressing his or her emotions independently is only to make the scene or scenes more realistic.
He urged the MFDC to produce films which can be marketed in National and International level and to introduce a film policy at the earliest.
The resolutions which were taken during the open forum were to open a film certification centre in Manipur, fixing the censor fee depending on the budget of the film to be censored, to improve the condition of the movie theatres in Manipur, to improve the economy of Manipur by opening a marketing cell under MFDC and to include different guilds while making a new executive council as the two years term of the existing members of the film forum is over, he added.
While concluding his statement he said that the JCCK movement is neither against the Film Forum of Manipur nor it is a split-part of the forum.
He requested the people of Manipur not to assume that the film forum has split into two or there are two film forums confronting each other.
