Imphal, July 14 2012:
Demanding the inclusion of Gangte Students' Organisation (GSO) as a constituent unit of the Churachandpur District Students' Union (CDSU), the KSO (Churchandpur Branch) has warned of boycotting activities of CDSU if GSO is not included to represent the Gangte tribe in the district students' union.
In a statement, James Doungel, external secretary and Ngamkhopao Haokip, vice-president (admin) of KSO (CCPur) appealed all concerned individuals, sister organizations and past leaders of CDSU to extend support to GSO in their fight for justice while also urging the election committee of CDSU to postpone the election of CDSU until and unless GSO is inducted in the Union to represent the Gangte tribe.
The KSO statement said that though the conventional practices and bye-laws of the CDSU as a body represented by students' bodies of each and every tribe inhabiting the district was a wise motive on the part of the founding members and much appreciated in the then social set-up of our society, the present trend of administration and representation has turned incompetent and become apprehensive as the Union is not represented by all the tribes based in Churachandpur.
Expressing regret over the 'wilful' deprivation of Gangte Students' Organisation (recognized student body) in the CDSU fold due to the influence of another community and negligence, whatsoever, the KSO statement said the long overdue denial would only create misunderstandings and invite innumerable obstacles among the students' community in the future.
