Imphal, June 07 2015 : Samata Sahitya Academy, Manipur Pradesh felicitated 11 National and international Samata Sahitya Academy award winners of the State at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.

The awards were given by the Samata Sahitya Academy on May 23 at Dr Ambedkar Bhavan, Pune to those individuals who have professionally excelled in the field of literature, arts, sports, social works, academics and Shumang Leela.

Among the 11 awardees, seven were Shumang Leela artistes while the remaining four belonged to social works, academic, theatre and Nat Sankritan.

The felicitation function was graced by Konthoujam A/C MLA K Sarat, DIG Range- 1 IK Muivah and Chairperson of Samata Sahitya Academy, Manipur Pradesh, Wareppa Naba as chief guest, special guest and president respectively.

Shumang Leela is a unique form of drama practiced only in Manipur.

The art form can be used as a powerful means to highlight the condition of the society, IK Muivah stated.

He further urged Shumang Leela artistes to merge education with entertainment in their future productions.

While the State has achieved fame in the field of sports world wide, Arts and Culture is yet another field where Manipur has excelled, MLA K Sarat asserted.

The Samata Sahitya Academy awardees that were felicitated were Ningthoujam Rajen (Keirao Rajen), H Jiten, Imo Heisnamba, Surjit Saikhom, Jamesh Heigrujam, K Somorjit, Th Sanoubi, SB Singh, Oinam Chanchan, Y Nilachandra and Wareppa Naba.
