Awareness programme on Bird Conservation / Annual GB held

A one-day awareness programme on the "Conservation of Birds" was organized today at the Inland Water Transport Complex, Sendra.
The event was graced by Ngangom Sanajaoba Meitei, Project Director, Loktak Development Authority, Government of Manipur, and Khangembam Shamungou, President, Manipur Bird Club, as presidium members.
At the event, K Jugeshor delivered a comprehensive talk on "Identification of Birds: Issues and Challenges," highlighting the importance of bird conservation and the obstacles faced in protecting avian biodiversity.
An interactive session was also held with members of the Loktak Lake Tourism Development Cooperative Society, Sendra - a prominent boating service provider in the State - focusing on their crucial role and responsibilities in conserving waterbirds, alongside offering quality experiences to tourists.
In his address, Ngangom Sanajaoba Meitei emphasized the urgent need for environmental conservation amidst the ongoing global warming crisis.
He underlined that protecting the avian population is integral to safeguarding wetlands, and called upon all stakeholders to act as guardians of the environment and biodiversity.
Khangembam Shamungou stressed the importance of minimizing disturbances to waterbirds during boating activities.
He also urged tourist guides to deepen their knowledge of Loktak Lake's waterbird species and share this information effectively with visitors to enhance eco-awareness.
Following the conclusion of the awareness session, the annual general body meeting of the Manipur Bird Club (MBC) was held.
During the meeting, members unanimously resolved to prioritize the conservation of Manipur's avian heritage and outlined various action plans for the year ahead.
The Manipur Bird Club remains committed to strengthening bird conservation efforts and promoting sustainable eco-tourism at Loktak Lake and across the state.
