Khongjom Day observed at various places

Thoubal/Kakching, April 24 2022: Khongjom Day was observed in various parts of the state on Saturday by paying floral tributes to Khongjom War heroes, who valiantly fought against the mighty British in the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 .

The Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima) in association with various Meira Paibi Lups of the state observed the 131st Khongjom Day in 20 different places of the state yesterday, said a release issued by Thoubal Ima.

Khongjom Day was celebrated at Bengi Makha Leikai, Community Hall by The Bengi Leimarel Association Meira Paibi; Nongpok Sekmai Panthoibi Shanglen by Nongpok Sekmai Meira Paibi; Lourembam Aripat Community Hall by The Aripat Women's Development Association; Icham Khunou Keithel by Icham Khunou Mahila Mandal; Leirongthel Uyung Makhong Lampak Community Hall by Leirongthel Women's Development Association; Khoirom Makha Leikai by Khoirom Nupi Marup, Yairipok; Wangkhem Mayai Leikai waiting shed by Ningol Yaipha Thourang Lup, Wankhem; Khekman Mathak Leikai Meira Shang by Empowerment Organisation Khekman Mathak Leikai; Kiyam Wangmataba ground by Thoubal Kiyam Wangmataba Meira Paibi; and Nungu Awang Leikai Community Hall by Nungu Awang Leikai Meira Paibi.

Chairel Meira Paibi also observed Khongjom Day at Chairel Khongnang Community Hall; Tangjeng Khunou Meira Paibi at Tangjeng Khunou Mandhop; Tangjeng Khunjao Meira Paibi at Tangjeng Keithel; Kakching Khunou Meira Paibi at Kakching Khunou Thingnam Mandhop; Thongam Meira Paibi at Thongam Mandhop; Ikop Ningthou Chaokhat Khongthang Nupi Lup at Tentha Khunjao Mayai Leikai Community Hall; Nongmaikhong Apunba Meira Paibi at Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai Community Hall; Charangpat Meira Paibi at Charangpat Luxmi Keithel; Sugunu Water Supply Manak Meira Paibi; and Thoubal Ima at Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Khongjom Day, Association for Paona Memorial Arts and Rural Development Services, Wangkhem, Thoubal district paid floral tributes to a portrait of Major General Paona Brajabashi at its complex.

A Thang-Ta performance was also conducted as homage to the martyrs of Manipuri-Anglo War 1891, said a release.

K Sanathoiba Sharma, Sangit Natak Akademi awardee, principal cum director of HLMTTCA Irilbung and L Bijoikumar Singh, vice president National Youth Project of Manipur State Council took part in the programme as presidium members.

Moreover, Students' Library Association (SLA) Kakching also observed Khongjom Day at its Library Hall by paying floral tributes to brave sons of the state.
