Film NE 2016 with Syam Sharma's retrospective to be held in Itanagar

Itanagar, January 24 2016: Arunachal Pradesh where film making is still new even by the standards of North Eastern States like Assam and Manipur, have gathered all their resources and courage to showcase their best films besides promoting the art of film making to the youth of the region in the forthcoming 4 day long festival of "Film North East 2016" to be held at Itanagar, Sonam Chombay, Secretary, IPR, Government of Arunachal Pradesh said yesterday.

Sonam Chombay, along with CM Longphong, Direc- tor, IPR, Govt of AP and Moji Riba, a Nationally ac- claimed film maker from Arunachal Pradesh, in a press meet said the festival will be held under the aegis of the Directorate of IPR, Govern- ment of Arunachal Pradesh from February 17 to 20.The festival will co-incide with Arunachal Pradesh's 30th Statehood Day celebration.

The festival will have two segments - films made after January 1, 2013 by debutant film directors of North East- ern States which have been nominated by IPR/Department of Art and Culture of the re- spective States.

The respective States can nomi- nate two films for the segment.

For the second segment, films made by young film makers (under 5 minute dura- tion) and documentary films on contemporary issues fac- ing the region (20 to 30 minute duration) have to be sent directly to the organiz- ers.

Retrospective session on films by film maker Padmashree Aribam Syam Sharma will also be held dur- ing the festival.

The film maker himself will also be attending the event.

Padma Bhushan Jahnu Baruah, noted film maker from the region will head the jury in the competitive sec- tion of feature films.

The winner of the Best Feature Film in the competition will win a cash award of Rs 5 lakh.

Over 60 films will be screened during the festival.

The organisers will also hold an "Open Forum" for film makers of NE where they will discuss and debate on the topic "Is there a cinema of the North East or a cinema of 8 States?" Eminent directors from the North Eastern States will also share their experiences on the field and growth of cinema.

A two-day workshop on script writing and sound de- sign will also be held with a view to help budding film makers.

Raja Chinnal, Deputy General Manager of NFDC will also be attending the event.

CM Longphong, Director IPR, said "We are visiting most of the States to spread awareness about the festival.

The response to the festival has been tremendous where ever we have went" .
