Imphal, September 23 2026: G Robert Sharma, Director, Information Technology, said that the Hackathon provides a platform for AI and digital firms to present innovative ideas and solutions that could help create a new dimension for tourism in Manipur.

He stated this in "the valedictory session of Re-Imagining Manipur: Hackathon 2026" jointly organised by Dept of Information Technology, and the Department of Tourism today at IT-SEZ, Mantripukhri, Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, Robert Sharma, said that the programme was organised, in connection with the upcoming World Tourism Day, which will be observed on the theme "Digital Agenda and AI to Redesign Tourism," to explore the potential of AI and digital technology in transforming the tourism sector of the State.

He added the Hackathon provided a platform for AI and digital firms to present innovative ideas and solutions that could help create a new dimension for tourism in Manipur.

He further stated that a total of 61 teams participated in the competition, including seven teams from outside the State participating online, with around 150 participants taking part in the competition.

The initiative, he added, was aimed at encouraging innovation, promoting the use of emerging technologies and exploring new avenues for the growth and development of tourism in Manipur.

N Kheda Varta Singh, IRS, Secretary (Tourism) highlighted that the registration of 61 teams is a strong testimony to the creativity, enthusiasm and talent of the State's youth.

He said their participation reflects their willingness to take on challenges and explore innovative ways of solving problems.

He added that tourism today extends beyond destinations, covering the entire digital journey from how visitors discover Manipur and access information to how they experience its culture, engage with local communities and share their stories.

He added that technology can help showcase the State's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, promote local products and artists, and create smarter, more sustainable and accessible tourism experiences.

Somorjit Salam, Secretary (IT) and Khumanthem Diana Devi, Director (Tourism) were also present, among others.
