TYA launches Thadou Pondum Project in Kangpokpi

Thadou Youth Association (TYA) has launched Thadou Pondum Project with an aim to promote the importance of Thadou Pondum and to provide source of livelihood to Thadou women.
The launching of Thadou Pondum Project at the conference hall of ADC Sadar Hills was attended by Stephen Thangtinlen Thadou, president, Thadou Inpi-GHQs as president and Kuki Inpi Manipur president, Lunpi Gangte as Special Guest and Rev K Hangshing, Pastor TBA Kangpokpi as inaugural and dedicating minister.
In Thadou culture and tradition, Pondum, a significant shawl of the Thadou community, is used in various occasions such as marriage, custom, etc and most commonly it is donned during mourning event.
Wearing Pondum simply signify there is a mourning and by donning Pondum it also exhibit one's solemn and commiserate to the bereaved family.
Rev K Hangshing, Pastor TBA Kangpokpi unwrapped a Pondum as a mark of launching the Thadou Pondum Project in the presence of Kuki Inpi Manipur president, Lunpi Gangte and Thadou Inpi-GHQ president, Stephen Thangtinlen Thadou.
While stressing the importance of Thadou Pondum.
Stephen Thangtinlen Thadou, president, Thadou Inpi-GHQ said that birth, marriage and others may be avoidable but death is something which human-beings cannot avoid under any circumstances.
So, having a symbol or sign to signify or display the occasion of death or mourning is very important and it must be promote and develop among the Thadou community, he said.
KIM President, Lunpi Gangte appreciated the innovative ideas of Thadou Youth Association for launching the Thadou Pondum Project.
The Pondum products of Virgo/Baibaleh Handloom and Handicraft Co-op Society, Kangchup, Kangpokpi District were exhibited during the programme.
According to Thadou Youth Association, Saipikhup, Thangnangpon, Ponmongvom, Khamtang pon, Pondum, Markindel, Khemache, Boitong sangkhol/Delchen, Pongeisan, Janpon comprises of Phoipi, Phoichal, Ponthup, Ponlhe, Molkil pon, Thalka Pon are the various traditional shawls of the Thadou community.
Various Thadou artistes enthralled the crowd during the event.
The programme was also attended by Kamboi Kipgen, general secretary, Thadou Inpi-GHQs, Lalkhosei Lhouvum, president, Thadou Inpi Kangpokpi District, Tingnei Lhouvum, general secretary, Thadou Women Association, Helal Thadou, president TYA-GHQs, Chinhat Singsit, TWA Kangpokpi, Kamsei Thadou, member standing committee, TYA-GHQ apart from various Thadou bodies.
