Jiribam, June 13 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) sought immediate attention from the Government to address the challenges at Jiribam District Hospital, Uchathol.
During a visit to the hospital, members of COCOMI found that the Jiribam District Hospital is facing inconveniences due to shortage of adequate staff and healthcare facilities essential for the effective functioning of a hospital.
Speaking to media persons, COCOMI media coordinator Yumkhaibam Surjit expressed serious concern to see the pitiable conditions of the hospital.
It is unfortunate that there are no sufficient doctors or staff to cater to the healthcare needs of the people of the region.
In terms of healthcare infrastructure, he highlighted that the operation theatre is not equipped with the necessary facilities and the erratic supply hinders the functioning to a large extent.
Apart from the above, the hospital building is in a pitiable state with rain water leaking from the ceiling and walls which is highly unsafe for the patients, he said.
In view of the above concerns, he urged the Government to look into the issues faced by the hospital and take up immediate measures to address these issues.
Medical Officer Dr RK Diwakar expressed that there are not enough doctors and supporting staff in the hospital.
The absence of blood plant, oxygen plant and no power backup are some of the major factors hindering the functioning of the hospital, he said.
