AMGSU observes Saheed Diwas
Source: The Sangai Express

Kangpokpi, June 08 2021: The All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union today observed the 130th Saheed Diwas in fond remembrance of the martyr Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri at his memorial complex in Kanglatongbi.

Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri was the first Gorkha martyr in India's Freedom Movement.

He led the contingent of native Gorkha soldiers for revolutionary Manipuri hero Yubraj Tekendrajit Singh.

He was hanged to death by the British on 8th June 1891 at the Western Gate of Kangla.

The observation was attended by LB Adhikari, president, AMGSU; Meena Bista, Pradhan Kanglatongbi GP; Rahul Rai Bogiko, general secretary, Bharatiya Gorkha Parishang, Manipur Branch and few other members of Parishang.

The observation was held following COVID appropriate behaviour.

Besides, all the AMGSU Units also observed Saheed Diwas in its respective units with minimum attendance.

The observation began with candle lighting, floral tributes followed by observing one minute silence to pay homage to the freedom fighter.

Meanwhile, the All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union made a humble appeal to all the citizens of Manipur to be sincere enough in following the COVID appropriate behaviors for the safety and wellbeing of the society.

It stated that the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has been harsh to all the individuals.

Though the overall cases in India have been going down, positive cases are on the rise in Manipur.

It appealed to all the concerned individuals and organisations to kindly stay at home and abstain from organising any kind of gathering including parties, birthdays, Poojas, etc.

It also appealed to all the individuals to respect all the frontline workers who have been fighting day and night to overcome the dreaded pandemic.

It also urged the people to self isolate and get tested as soon as possible if they have any of the COVID-19 symptoms.

Meanwhile, the union also appealed to the concerned authority that the rice quota meant for eligible beneficiaries must be disbursed by the concerned agents and authorities, without any kind of deductions in all the Gorkha inhabited villages in the State.

It also urged the private Telecom companies like Airtel and Jio to regularly strive to provide quality network service to the customers during this health crisis as due to the network related issues, many students have been missing their online classes and the working individuals have also been missing their work.

It also pointed out that Mobile hawkers riding motorcycles are roaming freely in Kanglatongbi and the adjoining villages while adding that until the challenges with respect to COVID-19 are over, the hawkers must not be allowed to enter inside the premises of the villages.
