Governor lauds contributions of IRCS, encourages greater youths participation in humanitarian services

Imphal, May 08 2025:
As observed across the globe, World Red Cross Day was celebrated widely in the State today to honour the humanitarian work of millions of volunteers who serve under the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur State Branch successfully concluded the month-long observation of World Red Cross Day 2025 at its office premises in MG Avenue, Imphal.
The closing function was graced by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla who is also the president of IRCS Manipur State Branch along with Dr RK Nimai Singh, vice president of IRCS Manipur State Branch as presidium members.
The observation began with the offering of floral tributes to the founder of the Red Cross, Henry Dunant.
It was followed by the distribution of certificates to the newly enrolled patron & vice patron members by the Governor.
The Governor also presented appreciation certificates and prizes to the donors of cash awards, and winners of recitation, written quiz, painting, extempore speech and folk song competitions held during the month-long observation.
Addressing the gathering, Ajay Kumar Bhalla extended heartfelt congratulations to all the awardees and the newly appointed patron of the IRCS, Manipur.
Governor also reflected on the enduring ideals of the Red Cross and the legacy of its founder, Henry Dunant, the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Governor lauded the outstanding contributions of the IRCS in Manipur during times of crisis, including natural disasters, pandemics, and the assistance provided to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across both the hills and the valley.
He also acknowledged the IRCS' preparedness in disaster mitigation and encouraged greater participation of youth in humanitarian services and related activities.
Furthermore, the Governor assured that the Raj Bhavan and the Government of Manipur will continue to extend support to the IRCS and its noble efforts.
Imphal East Branch
The IRCS, Imphal East District Branch also celebrated World Red Cross Day 2025 at Babina Multispecialty Hospital, Khabeisoi.
It was attended by Khundrakpam AC MLA and patron member of IRCS, Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh; ADM, Imphal East, Rajkumar Dayananda; IRCS Manipur State Branch vice president, Dr RK Nimai Singh and Babina Group of Companies, MD, Dr Thangjam Dhabali Singh as presidium members.
During the event, the gathering offered floral tributes to a photograph of Henry Durant, founder of Red Cross.
The gathering also observed two minutes of silence to pay respect to the brave heroes who gave their lives in the present conflict.
