'Teacher' is the only profession, in whose honour a 'day' has been set aside by the nation, said chairman of Churachandpur District Private Schools Association Dr Dallian while addressing more than 10,000 students gathered at Lamka Public Ground to commemorate the Nation's Teachers' Day celebration here.
Students from 28 schools in the district assembled with their sparkling costume to honour their teachers by singing in unison 'Resolve to the sand of time,' a theme song penned by Brigadier BC Sharma SM, Commander 27 Sector Assam Rifles.
Replicating the word 'CCPUR,' students stood at ease while a twelve year old student from Rayburn High School, Miss Nemy L Tombing addressed the gathering on their behalf.
'It is a day that is dedicated to the hard work that is put by the teachers all year long, a day that is a complete tribute to the teachers all around India' she said.
Speaking with zeal, Brig Sharma who was also the chief guest stressed on the momentous work, teachers shoulder in the society.
It is the duty of the Teachers to guide the intellect and vivid children to the right path, he said.
Dr Dallian while calling on the students to learn to respect their teachers even at times when they herald above them, said 'You are what you are because of them'.
'Contractors and Engineers build structures but teachers built the citizens.' The Assam Rifles who in addition to shouldering the physical arrangement and transportation initiated the celebration under the theme 'Unity and Co-Existence.' Of the 28 schools who contributed a fraction of their wards to the celebration, at least 20 are said to have another set of celebration in their respective schools to glorify their own teachers as the Nation marked and honoured its teach on Dr Radhakrishnan's birth anniversary.
