Imphal, September 01 2024:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCO-MI) has categorically stated that the Central forces and State security forces who are involved in arresting village volunteers and seizing/recovering weapons from village volunteers should bear responsibility for the bombing of Meitei villages by Kuki terrorists at Koutruk and Kadangband in Imphal West district today.
Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office this evening, COCO-MI media coordinator Y Surjitkumar demanded resignation of Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh on moral ground.
He said that the Kuki terrorists bombed Koutruk and Kadangband in spite of the presence of Central and State security personnel in the nearby areas taking advantage of the absence of village volunteers.
One woman who came to her parental home was killed in the attack and one of her minor daughters sustained injuries.
Moreover, some police personnel and village volunteers sustained injuries, Surjitkumar said.
He said that the Kuki terrorists would not have been able to attack the Meitei villages if village volunteers were present in the area.
Central and State security personnel involved in arresting village volunteers and seizure/recovery of weapons from them should be held responsible for the deadly attack carried out by the Kuki terrorists and the resulting casualties, the COCOMI media coordinator said.
Moreover the Security Advisor and the DGP must stop down on moral ground, he asserted.
The mass rally organised by the COCOMI on June 28 this year voiced strong objection against arrest of village volunteers and seizure of weapons from them.
The rally made a vocal declaration that the village volunteers should not be disarmed until and unless the Kuki aggression is stopped or the conflict is brought to an end, Surjitkumar said.
Citing the recent incidents of bombardment of Torbung and Moirang in Bishnupur district by Kuki terrorists, the COCOMI media coordinator asserted that people have lost faith in the security measures taken up by the Central and State security forces.
Arresting and disarming village volunteers who are only defending Meitei villages from Kuki aggression while giving a free hand to the aggressors is unacceptable, he said.
If such attacks carried out by Kuki terrorists using bombs and sophisticated firearms should be stopped, Central and State security forces must arrest the aggressive Kuki terrorists, he added.
