Lecture on Korean Language held

A lecture on 'Korean Language Learning' was organised by Department of Foreign Language, Manipur University at the varsity's VC Court hall today.
Speaking at the occasion, Professor in JNU's Centre for Korean Studies Dr Lee Hyun Kyung noting growing popularity of Korean language in India, particularly in the North East region, opined that telecast of popular Korean programmes in Arirang and KBS cable television channels might be one of the contributory factors for many people of India able to grasp the language.
Expressing that North Easterners are not only similar in looks with the Korean people but seemingly have more adaptive capability in learning Korean language than their counterparts in other regions of India, Dr Lee pointed out that with nearly 430 Korean companies spread across India, including 194 in Delhi alone, learning Korean language would be beneficial in getting jobs at these companies.
He also informed that inspite of certificate course in Korean Language currently opened at MU facing faculty member inadequacy those desirous of pursuing the course may access internet for wider information on the language.
Pointing out that an MoU was signed between the Governments of India and Korea for an exchange programme of one or six years duration under which 15 students are selected to undergo requisite language course, Dr Lee said scholarship amount provided to the selected students vary depending on whether the study is for certificate, diploma or degree course.
MU Vice Chancellor Prof HNK Sharma and Department of Foreign Language (MU) Coordinator Dr Ratan kumar also attended the lecture programme.
