Disturbance Free Zone Demand Day

As in past years, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) is set to observe Education Disturbance Free Zone Demand Day on July 5 .
Speaking to reporters at their Keishampat office, DESAM secretary general N Edison said that apart from taking out rallies in the four valley districts, a public convention would be held in the State capital on the day.
He said that DESAM has been putting in effort to make education a disturbance free zone since its inception in 2002 .
The first ever public rally on the issue was taken out on July 5, 2008, he said and added that since then, DESAM has been observing the day as Education Disturbance Free Zone Demand Day.
This year, the day would be observed under the theme, 'Sop politics in education', Edison said.
Saying that poster campaigns and awareness programmes would be conducted ahead of the day at various schools and colleges, Edison said that hoardings would also be put up at different educational institutes across the State.
The student's body would organise debating competitions on the topic, 'Human resources development can be enhanced only when education sector is made a disturbance free zone' in the four valley districts.
Top four participants of every district would be selected for the State level competition, he said.
Edison said that district level competitions would be held at Waikhom Mani Girls' College (Thoubal district) on June 25, Ningthoukhong Keithel community hall (Bishnupur district) on June 21 and Johnstone Higher Secondary School (Imphal West) on June 27 .
Competition for Imphal East district would be conducted on June 25, he added.
Cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 would be given to the top four prize winners respectively at the district level.
At the State level, top three prize winners would be awarded with Rs 10,000, Rs 7000 and Rs 5000 respectively, Edison said.
Participants who secured 4th to 10th positions in both the levels would also be given consolation prizes.
The State level competition would be conducted before July 5.
