Imphal, November 11 2013:
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has urged the State Government to check inclusion of names of non-locals in the electoral rolls of the State under fictitious and fake surnames.
The committee submitted a memorandum to State Chief Electoral Officer in this regard today.
Informing it to media persons during a press conference held at the office of DESAM today, JCILPS Students Wing Convenor M Angamba said that names of four non-locals with Meitei surnames were found listed in the electoral roll of Kakching A/C recently.
He said that Jaleshor Prashad, Ghanashyam Prashad, Indu Devi and Bimola Prashad were found entered in the electoral roll of the Constituency with fake surnames as Huirem Jaleshor, Huirem Ghanashyam, Huirem Ongbi Indu Devi and Tonjam Ongbi Bimola Devi respectively.
The first three persons hail from Bihar and the fourth one is from Uttar Pradesh, he added.
As the rate of influx of outsiders in the State has increased manifold, cases of new inclusion of non-Manipuris in the electoral rolls are also rampant in all 60 Assembly Constituencies of Manipur, he added.
Though they have the right to roam and reside in any part of the country, such newly entered persons must not be enlisted in the electoral roll of the State if they do not possess necessary valid documents, he added.
Angamba further said that inclusion of their names in the electoral roll give them the space to carry out cheating and crimes in the State.
As such, JCILPS has urged the Chief Electoral Officer of the State to issue strict instructions to all BLOs, SDOs and DCs to have thorough checking and verification before entering a name in the electoral roll, he added.
He also urged the authority concerned to stop inclusion of the names of non-locals in the electoral rolls.
