Imphal, May 07 2012:
Enraged locals of Thangmeiband AC staged a partial roadblock and sit-in protest apart from taking out a rally protesting the alleged negligence of road repair and construction of the stretch from Lamphel Sanakeithel to Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and the labyrinths within the area by successive MLAs and authority concerned.
However, at around 11am OC of Lamphel Police prevented the protestors, under the aegis of Thangmeiband and Lamphel Area Joint Action Committee, from futher resorting to partial roadblock.
The sit-in and the rally passed off peacefully without any interruption.
Later, talking to reporters, convenor of the JAC, Premjit Moirangthem threatened of launching more violent form of protest in case the authority concerned fails to address the matter promptly.

Lamenting that appeals to MLAs of Uripok AC and Thangmeiband AC for facilitating the construction of the roads failed to bring any positive result, the JAC convenor said more violent form of agitation would come up if the ultimatum served to the department concerned is not fulfilled within seven days.
Attributing the delay in completing many development projects like sewerage project to the irresponsibility of the Govt and the MLAs, Premjit contended that this fact also shows the insincerety of the Government.
Addressing the protesters, general secretary of Kwai Lamphel Women Development Organisation, Thariksana said the condition of busy Thangmeiband-Lamphel road is turned into a cesspool od water during monsoon while the same patch of raod is covered with thick dust during dry season.
Not only the road became dangerous as vehicles are lost in cloud of thick dust and thereby reducing the visibility level, she added that roadside dwellers are prone to respiratory disorder diseases like asthma/lung infection and other viral fevers.
Lamenting that the area is reduced to neglected marginal area despite its centrality, Thariksana expressed optimism that the agitation staged today serves as an eye-opener to the authority concerned.
The demonstration was participated by 17 organisations of the area and all schools within the area.
