Imphal, December 06:
The sitting MLAs of Federal Party of Manipur (FFM) are mulling over moving a Private Member Resolution during the upcoming winter session of the Assembly to aw special attention of the august House to the ongoing public movement for lifting of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
A joint meeting of the party MLAs and leaders was held at the Babupara residential quarters of MLA L Tomba this afternoon with party president Dr L Chandramani in the chair.
All the party MLAs who attended the meeting decided to extend their co-operation and take part in the Assembly session scheduled to begin from December 17 and took various resolutions for bringing up important public issues for discussion in the House.
It may be noted here that the Opposition DPA had boycotted the previous three sessions of the Assembly levelling many serious charges against Speaker TN Haokip.
Talking to The Sangai Express, after the meeting, party spokesman MLA Salam Ibohal said his party colleagues would ensure smooth conduct of the Assembly session this time to enable discussion of many important public issues.
With this end in view, FPM would insist on moving a Private Member Resolution to draw the special attention of the House towards the public demand for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, he said.
To dispel apprehension of the people that Kangla might fallen in the hands of land sharks after it has been handed over to the Government by Assam Rifles, FPM would also proposed for formulating a policy to protect and safeguard the sacred fort, he added.
Prevailing law and order situation, lack of social and economic security and exposure of numerous scandals rocking the Government Department are among other important issues to be raised by the Opposition during the session, he added.
