78 more delta variant cases detected, 13 out of 15 victims unvaccinated; 30k cases, 500 deaths in IW

Imphal, July 23 2021: The state witnessed the second highest single day spike of 1284 new cases on Friday, which took the total number of infected people past the 90,000-mark while the pandemic claimed 15 more lives in the last 24 hours.

Friday registered a positivity rate of 18.78 per cent against 16.71 per cent of Thursday.

Friday also saw increased in fatality count from Thursday, which recorded 12 deaths.

Meanwhile, 78 more cases of Delta variants have been detected in the state.

On July 1, the government sent 83 samples for genome sequencing and 78 of them returned positive for Delta variants taking the state's tally to 283 cases.

So far, the state has recorded 60,862 positive cases and 1077 fatalities during the second wave of the pandemic.

During the current month, official bulletins reported 20,472 new cases and 301 fatalities out of which 7574 new cases and 101 fatalities were added in the last seven days alone.

The average positivity rate in the current month rose to 15.60 per cent from 15.42 per cent last month.

According to official reports, all the 1284 new cases (609 male & 675 female) are from among the general population and their samples were tested at RIMS (63), JNIMS (106), District Hospitals (860) and other testing centres (255).The positive cases are from Imphal East (310), Imphal West (381), Thoubal (95), Bishnupur (117), Kakching (85), Ukhrul (14), Churachandpur (140), Chandel (51), Senapati (18), Tamenglong (34), Tengnoupal (17), Kangpokpi (9), Jiribam (5) and Noney (8).All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 15 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours but no information on their age and genders have been provided.

The district wise fatalities are Imphal West (7), Imphal East (2), Bishnupur (3), Kangpokpi (2) and Churachandpur (1) .

The cumulative number of deaths has reached 1451.Two of the victims, as per the Committee report, had received first dose of Covid vaccine while the remaining 13 were unvaccinated.

Six of the 15 victims did not have any co- morbidities.

In the last 24 hours, 949 patients were discharged from home isolation (392), JNIMS (10), CCCs (155) and CHICs (392).On the other hand, 776 patients who have been discharged on different dates in the past are reported only on Friday as backlog cases counted as discharged among the total of 1725 cases.

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 90,262 (general population - 86,310 and CAPF personnel - 3,961).Number of recovered cases is 78,872 (general population - 74,978 and CAPF personnel - 3,894) and number of active cases is 9939 (general population - 9,877 and CAPF personnel - 62) .

The recovery rate is 87.38 per cent.

Out of the 9939 active cases, 4258 patients (42.84 per cent) are in home isolation, 2830 (28.47 per cent) in CHICs, 1829 (18.40 per cent) in CCCs and 1022 (10.28 per cent) in hospitals.

Out of the patients admitted to different hospitals, 136 are in ICU/HDU wards with 399 on oxygen support and 73 patients on ventilator/NIV support.

On the other hand, 134 patients in different CCCs are also on oxygen support.

As of Thursday night, 54 beds are available in government hospitals, 56 in private hospitals, four in LF School Covid Treatment Centre run by MSF, 142 in district hospitals and CHCs, and 1346 in different CCCs.

In the last 24 hours, 1862 D-type and 388 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities.

A total of 23,572 individuals were administered Covid vaccines on Thursday and the cumulative number of vaccinated individuals has reached 9,94,982.However, only 1,39,728 of them have received their second dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, 57 new positive cases were detected out of 249 samples tested in Kakching district from Thursday 2 pm to Friday 2 pm, thus registering positivity rate of 22.89 per cent.

One positive case was detected at Ema Hospital, six at Jivan Hospital and 50 at different government RAT sites.

One each of them is from Bishnupur and Tengnoupal district while the remaining 55 are residents of Kakching district.

As per report from DSO Kakching, the cumulative number of infected people in the district has reached 5114 out of which 4343 have been discharged and 97 have died.

The active caseload of the district as of Friday afternoon is 674, the report said.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (30,772), Imphal East (20,154), Thoubal (7558), Churachandpur (7581), Kangpokpi (2145), Tamenglong (2597), Bishnupur (6300), Senapati (1649), Ukhrul (1646), Kakching (5028), Chandel (1617), Noney (716), Tengnoupal (907), Jiribam (890), Kamjong (532) and Pherzawl (170) .

Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (501), Imphal East (351), Thoubal (131), Churachandpur (124), Kangpokpi (46), Tamenglong (11), Bishnupur (133), Senapati (6), Ukhrul (16), Kakching (86), Chandel (25), Noney (3), Tengnoupal (9), Jiribam (6), Kamjong (3) and Pherzawl (0).However, the figure does not match with data released by CMOs and DSOs of some districts.

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 29,089 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 22,446 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 3,32,987 tests per million population against the national average of 3,24,849 TPM.

Case fatality rate stands at 1.61 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, 6836 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 18.78 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate rose to 8.74 per cent.
