No point in celebrating Statehood day : PREPAK

Imphal, January 20 2021: The proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has categorically stated that the State's people have no reason to celebrate the 49th Statehood Day, as Kangleipak was allegedly never a part of the Indian Union.

The sole purpose of observing this day would be to declare that Kangleipak is an 'Indian colony' with no right to self-determination and nothing else, alleged the outfit in a press communique' issued by Leibaakngakpa Luwang, secretary-in-charge, publicity and propaganda, PREPAK.

He narrated that Kangleipak became a centrally administered area by abolishing Kangleipak National Assembly and Kangleipak Popular Government via an order dated October 15, 1949, after the signing of the Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949 .

Kangleipak was treated as a Part C State as per The Union Territories (Laws) Act, 1950 and Indian laws were enforced upon the State, the outfit maintained adding that the State was again given a status of a Union Territory after the setting up of Kangleipak Territorial Council in 1956.Kangleipak was declared as the 19th State by the Indian Union on January 21, 1972 .

After amending the first schedule of the Indian Constitution, Kangleipak was treated as an entity which existed as a province of a Chief Commissioner appointed by the Centre before the adoption of the Indian Constitution, Leibaakngakpa Luwang continued and asserted that India failed to recognise that Kangleipak was a sovereign kingdom before the signing of the Merger Agreement.

Kangleipak was given Statehood to exterminate the indigenous people, alleged the outfit further.

Maintaining that annexing a State or a country is against International laws, Leibaakngakpa Luwang asserted that Kangleipak is not a State of this country but a territory occupied by India.

The right to self-determination demanded by Kangleicha (people of Kangleipak) has also been suppressed by enforcing AFSPA, 1958 in the State, he alleged.

Recalling that a report was submitted to the United Nation Human Right Council (UNHRC) in 1997 to highlight the violation of human rights here, the outfit added that the council recognised the problem in Manipur as a political one and not law and order problem.

Following this judgment, the Centre is still not able to submit the necessary report to the UNHRC under International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, he mentioned.

He further stated that the Human Rights Act passed by the Parliament in 1993 also has no place in the State.

According to the UN Charter and international law, Kangleipak is a territory capable of self-governance, he alleged.

Further stating that the Kangleichas have no reason to celebrate the Statehood Day, he asserted that PREPAK will continue to fight to regain the lost glory of Kangleipak without any compromise.
