Imphal, May 14 2022: The Minister of State for External Affairs, RK Ranjan Singh visited Central Agricultural University (CAU)'s Central Farm and College of Food Technology yesterday.

The Vice Chancellor, CAU Imphal Dr Anupam Mishra, Director of Instruction Dr S Basanta Singh, Director of Extension Dr Ph Ranjit Sharma, Dean of College of Food Technology Dr Ng Joykumar, Dean of College of Agriculture, Imphal, Professor Indira Sarangthem and other officials and staff of CAU Headquarters were also present during the visit, said a statement by CAU Imphal.

During the visit, RK Ranjan Singh discussed many points with officials of CAU Imphal which include critically analysing ODOP ( one district one product ) in 16 districts taking into account the soil type , topography , water quality and Agro - climatic conditions of the region by the university experts and to focus on locality specific crops based on the suitability and indigenous crops cultivation along with the natural farming in the north eastern region.

Further it was discussed to expand/popularise Manipuri traditional chilli ( Meitei morok) which is not so pungent to minimise the import of Bengal chilli from outside Manipur and to initiate detailed biochemical /nutritional profiling of Meitei morok and other indigenous food products.

Also it was emphasized to prioritize Indian made products in terms of food products, equipment/ machineries as per the Prime Minister's "Made in India" slogan.

The team also highlighted the importance to focus on food packaging / vacuum packaging and attractive labelling on food packages and to train students on entrepreneurship development to enable them to earn while learning and to give importance to experiential learning, added the statement.
