Ukhrul, October 13 2022: District Administration of Ukhrul in collaboration with DPO, ICDS, Social Welfare and CMO, District Health Society of Ukhrul today organised the "Felicitation of newly born female child and their mothers cum awareness programme on Pre-Conceptual & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique Act 1994" was held today at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat, Ukhrul.

It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar; Beti Bachao Beti Padhao( BBBP), District Nodal Officer, A Rohini Kumar; ADM, Chunglenmang; SDO Ukhrul, Suranjoy Maibam Singh; SDO Jessami, Mangminlen Vaiphei; CMO, Dr AS Kapangring; and DPO, W Shimreipam.

Speaking on the occasion, A Rohini Kumar informed that BBBP was initially introduced on January 22, 2015 all over the country with an aim to bring balance in the sex ratio in India.

He stated that the programme was specially meant to empower female child and reduce discrimination in the society.

"It aimed to bring an equitable society where both the genders have equal chances to progress in life", said Rohini while adding that as per the recent addition to this programme, PC & PNDT Act 1994, there is restriction on gender determination before child birth.

"As of today, Ukhrul does not have any such incidents but as a patriarchal society women have some complexes especially in domestic affairs which in a way gives negative impact in their walks of life", Krishna Kumar asserted.

The DC also visited and distributed kits to newly born children at the District Hospital.

Resource person of the event, Dr Pamza Shaiza informed that under the PC&PNDT Act 1994, any types of sex selection is strictly prohibited and punishable.

Meanwhile, with the aim to create awareness on road safety rules, signs & measures to minimise/contain accidents and ease road traffic congestion, District Administration Ukhrul in collaboration with District Police, ADC and District Transport embarked on a Walkathon-cum-Awareness Campaign from Mini-Secretariat, Ukhrul to Ukhrul Higher Secondary School yesterday.

The public were encouraged to carry valid registration certificates, licences and abstain from reckless & drunken driving which can cost lives.

The road safety awareness drive was attended by Krishna Kumar; SP, Ningshem Vashum; Chunglenmang; Suranjoy Maibam Singh; A Rohini and District Transport Officer, Wahidur among others.
