Bishnupur, July 10 2024: The 112th birth anniversary of eminent freedom fighter and former Education Minister of Manipur, Hemam Nilamani Singh was observed today at the mini hall of Moirang College.

The birth anniversary observation was jointly organised by Hemam Nilamani Foundation (A Charitable Trust) Moirang and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Moirang College.

The event was graced by Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti Singh as the chief guest; Chairman of Hemam Nilamani Foundation Dr Hemam Priyoshakhi Devi as the functional president; Principal of Moirang College and secretary of the Foundation N Joy and Associate Professor Blood Transfusion Medicine, RIMS Dr Pratima as the guests of honour.

The dignitaries led in paying homage and floral tributes to the photo of Heman Nilamani Singh.

As a part of the programme, meritorious students of Moirang AC were felicitated by presenting cash awards and citations.

A blood donation programme was also organised by the Foundation and IQAC of Moirang College in collaboration with the Blood Bank RIMS wherein around 60 donors including students of the college donated blood.

Speaking at the occasion, Thongam Shanti Singh recounted the remarkable contributions of Hemam Nilamani Singh in the freedom struggle, education, politics and welfare activities.

The MLA also highlighted that he played pivotal roles in founding the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and in the cooperative movement by spearheading the formation of Moirang Cooperative Society and Manipur Women Cooperative Development Society.

Lauding Hemam Nilamani Singh as a visionary leader who strove sincerely for the welfare of his people, the MLA maintained that he made dedicated efforts to promote the arts and culture of the State.

The MLA also underscored the need of enlightening the current generation about the significant contributions of eminent leaders like Hemam Nilamani Singh and Mairembam Koireng Singh for the development of the society.
