Imphal, August 18 2014:
The 15 days skill development training programme on 'Loom based product of Water Hyacinth', organised by the Ereima Women Welfare Association, Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, ended today.
Speaking as the guest of honour, P Loken, Chairman of the Manipur Industry Development Council and Vice Chairman of the Indian Council of small Industries, Kolkata, emphasised on studying merits and demerits and likely benefits of any work before one takes it up.
Manipur though known for its craftsmanship and availability of abundant natural resources, he said, it still lags behind industrially.
Elaborating the importance and usage of reed in ancient crafts, Loken added that while reed is available only in Manipur, Water Hyacinth grows everywhere in every corner of the world.
Trainees must therefore, he added, be conscious of market competition and focus on improving product quality if they are to compete with other industries manufacturing products made from water hyacinth.
Th Arunkumar, General Manager, DIC, Imphal East District, Government of Manipur and Priyobata Gurumayum also graced the event as chief guest and president respectively.
The 15 days training programme, which started from August 1, was participated by 25 candidates - two males and 23 females.
Participation certificates were also distributed at the closing function.
