A truck carrying sand and stone was burnt down by some miscreants at Khabam Larhkhai along National Highway-39 during the indefinite general strike being called by the Working Committee of the Apunba LUp this morning.
The loaded truck bearing registration number NM-01/4171 was coming from Awang Potsangbam at around 10 am.
As it arrived at Khabam Lamkhai, the miscreants stopped the vehicle and set it on fire.
Front portion of the truck including the driver's cabin have been burnt beyond redemption.
The arsonists also reportedly broke the wind shield of another loaded truck which was coming behind.
Both the trucks were Yairipok bound.
On the other hand, a windshield of a Gypsy vehicle, belonging to State police commandos which had gone to Singjamei side to disperse strike supporters from the road, suffered damage when the strike supporters pelted stones at the security personnel this afternoon.
Meanwhile, two infants, a boy and a girl, who suffered injuries when police personnel fired rubber bullets and tear gas shells indiscriminately to disperse strike supporters blocking roads at Bishnupur Bazar and Khabeisoi have been admitted at the hospitals.
The infant girl who is being admitted at RIMS Hospital here is identified as Haobijam Maryleima (1) of Bishnupur Bazar and the infant boy identified as Md Mansoor (2) of Kabeisoi is being hospitalized at JN Hospital, Porompat.
The two infants were reportedly inside their respective houses when stray rubber bullets and tear gas canisters fired by the security personnel pierced through the roofs of their houses injuring them in the process.
Bombs land, none hurt: Inmates of two houses located at Sugnu Pahmang Leikai under Thoubal district had a miraculous escape when two under-barrel grenades landed and blasted at the rooftops, said informed sources.
The grenades fired from unknown sources partially destroyed the two buildings and household materials but none was injured.
The incident occurred on August 15 evening at about 7 and simultaneously landed at the residences belonging to Nongmaithem Surjamukhi Devi and Abujam Indramani.
While Surjamukhi and her family members were at the adjacent room from where the explosive landed the second one landed at the granary house of Indramani creating about two feet hole on the tin roof.
