Farmers training programme organised

A one-day farmers training programme on winter crops was organised under the Project Director, Senapati of Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at Namching of Saitu Gamphazol Block today.
District Agriculture Officer of Senapati, M Gojendra, Sub-Divisional Officer of Purul, W Inaobi and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer of Kangpokpi, N Ratan attended the programme.
Spealing on the training praogramme, M Gojendra said, there are many opportunities available for farmers under National Food Security Mission.
Under the Mission, he said, the farmers could get pesticides and insecticides free of cost from the Governent.
50 percent subsidy is being provided to those farmers who are practicing System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in the purchase of Kono weaders and knapsack sprayers.
Agriculture Department are also providing technical support in the farming of high yielding hybrid variety of paddy, he added.
Saying that paddy production competition was not held this year due to scanty rainfall, he said that the competition would be organised in the next season.
Owing to the wholehearted effort of the farmers of the State, the State Agriculture Department would get a reward of Rs 2 crore from the Centre on January 15, he added.
Gojendra further said that Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir and Department Director G Shamu Kabui would leave Imphal soon for New Delhi to collect the reward.
One each farmer from Kakching and Imphal East would also accompanied the Minister and Director in receiving the reward, he added.
Resource persons spoke on plantation of maize and winter plant diseases in the training programme.
Maize seedlings and other seeds of different plants were also distributed to the farmers in the programme.
