Imphal, May 03 2012:
While the deaths of Loitam Richard and Meghalaya's Dana Sangma under mysterious circumstances at Bangalore and New delhi respectively have raised furore in the region, father of yet another student victim has demanded a thorough investigation on his son's death at Chennai last year.
Speaking to news-persons at Manipur Press Club today, one Okram Indramani of Yumnam Leikai under Singjamei AC, informed that his son O Laaba was found dead on July 23, 2011, inside his hostel room (No 111) located at Padur (Kellambakam) of Tamil Nadu.
Laaba was pursuing BCA at the Hindustan College of Arts & Science in Chennai, said the father who did not rule out the possibility of his son being murdered.
Calling upon the State Government and student organisations to contribute their mite in finding out the truth of his son's death, Indramani said an FIR had been lodged on the matter at a police station near the Chennai institute besides informing the same to the Superintendent of Police of Kanchipuram district.
Contending that the post mortem report had already confirmed Labaa's demise as an unnatural death, he suggested interrogation of his son's old hostel-mate identified as one Ashwin and the hostel warden will certainly provide some important clues on the case.
Stating that he went to Labaa's hostel in April this year, Indramani maintained that the Kanchipuram SP and officials of the police station near the College were intimated again to probe the matter.
Further informing that the hostel warden declined to meet him at the time of his recent visit, indramani also regretted some individuals uploading information on Facebook that Laaba committed suicide due to failed romance.
Conveying solidarity to the suffering of parents of Loitam Richard, he demanded that death of Manipuri students while pursuing studies outside the State should not be taken lightly.
