Ukhrul, August 29: While welcoming the newly posted Principal in-charge of Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS) R Rinkahao who is the senior most lecturer amongst the UHSS lecturers from the Department of Political Science, the Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL/Ukhrul students union) strongly noted the manner of some of the lecturers reportedly acted against all norms and tried their vested interest to jeorpardise the students acadamic season and their career.

Talking to this correspondent at HKL office at Wino-Bazaar,Ukhrul today, its president Godfry Zingkhai said that the students of UHSS had suffered long enough since 3/4 years back due to non-posting of full-fleged Principal and lack of teachers particularly in Science stream and some of its infrastructure.

In this regard the president added that strike, closing down of school, sit-in protest at DC Office and various types of agitation had been undertaken frequently in recent times however, the inefficiency of the Education Minister and the authority concerned have been the stumbling block for the students community and specially to the students of UHSS as till date no regular Principal and adequate teaching faculty staff have been posted in the school.

The president further informed that there is no teacher in Chemistry and Biology Departments while single part-time lecturers are teaching Physic and Maths.

At present the school has only 7 regular lecturers and 13 part-time lecturers.

Moreover, the existing boys' and girls' hostels have no kitchen nor furnitures and there is no library.

As such, the school is lacking many requisite facilities as compared to other Higher secondary schools of other districts of Manipur.

Maintaining that though there were more than thousands of students at UHSS, the overall conditions of the UHSS and its administration has been detoriorating day by day.

However, things seems to be improving after the post of Principal in-charge was given to R Rinkahao on August 18 this month, the president said.

He further stated that until the better alternative of posting the full-fledged Principal is not made, the Government should not disturb the present atmosphere of the school and its administration.

Nevertheless, the union warns of intensee agitation in case he is posted somewhere else.

HKL also called upon the Education Minister to maintain transparency and accountability while executing his task for education is the only future solution of peace and development in the society.
