Consultative meet on bamboo policy conducted

State Level workshop cum consultative meeting on formulation of bamboo policy of Manipur State was inaugurated today at the Conference Hall of Forest Head Office, Sanjenthong.
The workshop cum consultative meeting is organised under the aegis of State Bamboo Steering Committee, Manipur.
The occasion was graced by Dr J Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary (Forest and Environment) and Chairman State Bamboo Steering Committee; AK Rana, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and V Tualthang, Director of Commerce and Industries as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Giving his speech, Dr J Suresh Babu noted that rampant growing of bamboo is beneficial for human beings and the environment as well.
It has also helped the small scale industries.
Artisans have also crafted beautiful items using bamboo which are in high demand in the market.
He said the Government needs to implement proper policy on bamboo without delay.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests AK Rana informed that the Forests department has submitted a draft policy on bamboo to the Government.
He conveyed that the Government would implement the policy sooner than later.
