Importance of held epidemiology training programme highlighted

Imphal, January 17 2023: Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, Health & IPR Minister has said that the State is changing for the better.

The Minister was speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of the 3/3 Epidemiology Workshop for Public Health Workforce organized at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong today.

He maintained that the State has improved in many sectors over the past few years under the able leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The road connectivity, telecommunication system, tourism prospects, law and order, health system etc.

have improved considerably.

The uniqueness of the State has also attracted the outsiders to visit and explore the beauty of the State, he added.

The Minister went on to state that during COVID-19 pandemic, the country was affected badly but with the sincere efforts of the field workers and dedicated medical staff the situation of the pandemic could be controlled in the country.

He continued that positive changes can be seen during the recent past particularly in the north-eastern region which implies the region is progressing.

Additional Chief Secretary V.Vumlunmang, IAS; Dr Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, Govt of India; Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Director Health Services, Manipur; Dr Meghna Desai, CDC India Country Director and Dr Somorjit Ningombam also attended the occasion.

Dr Saurabh Goel Joint Director, IDSP, NCDC, Govt of India gave a status update on Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP).

Dr.Meghna Desai CDC India Country Director gave an overview of the global scenario of field epidemiology training programme (FETP).

She said that this cohort of trained surveillance officers, epidemiologists and microbiologists will be an integral part of the Global Field Epidemiology Workforce.

Dr Somorjit Ningombam emphasised on the need for skills in field epidemiology in today's scenario where any health event has the potential to turn into an outbreak.

Director of Health Services, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang traced the history of modem medical science in the region.

He stressed on the need for a public health workforce well equipped with knowledge in field epidemiology.

The workshop is a part of the three-tiered Field Epidemiology Training Programme (FETP).

It is a three months introductory course on field epidemiology with three contact sessions jointly organised by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), MOHFW, Govt of India; World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) Atlanta with Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), NHM Manipur as the host.
