Shutdown throws normal life out of gear

Imphal, October 15 2024:
Normal life in the State was disrupted on Tuesday by the total shutdown called by different underground organisations including CorCom, ASUK and SOREPA against the alleged annexation of Manipur by India on October 15, 1949 .
All major markets of the State capital including the three Ima markets, temporary market, Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel remained closed during the total shutdown.
Petrol pumps and educational institutes, both Govt and private, were also shut.
There was no public transport service and most of the private vehicles remained off the road during the total shutdown.
However, flight service as well as essential services were not affected.
Police in large numbers were deployed at important junctions of the State capital to prevent any kind of unwanted incident during the total shutdown.
Normal life in Jiribam was also severely affected on account of the total shutdown.
There was no transport service from Jiribam to Imphal or Silchar.
Attendance in Govt offices and banks was quite sparse.
There was no report of any untoward incident.
