Focus should be on preventing drug abuse: Dr Lenin

Dr RK Lenin, HOD, Psychiatric, RIMS, has categorically stated that focusing on the preventive measures of drug abuse would be more effective in dealing with the issue of drug abuse than deliberating on the factors that influence drug abuse.
Addressing a one-day anti-drug campaign at Mayaikoibi Ningthoujam Leikai, Dr Lenin stated that sports and arts are some mediums which can be utilised to check drug abuse in the State.
Saying that many people abuse drugs to temporarily escape from stress/problems or in seeking short term pleasure, the doctor maintained that there are 5-10 strategies to prevent them from becoming drug addicts.
Dr Lenin also contended that promoting sport and art and culture would help reduce the rate of drug abuse among the youths.
Paraphrasing the popular idiom "Darkness cannot drive out darkness", he urged the people to consult with the medical experts if they are going through any kind of emotional disorders such as frustration, depression etc.
He also stated that everyone has a role to play in making Manipur one of the most healthy and active societies.
President, Mayaikoibi Development Association (MDA), Moirangthem Hemanta Singh; president KRIPA Society, Hijam Dineshwor Singh; former secretary AMADA Ningthoukhongjam Bobo, DESAM general secretary, Leishangthem Lamyanba Meitei and DESAM former president,Salam Aakash also attended the programme among others.
The programme was organised by MDA.
