Imphal, June 12 2024:
In view of the protracted Manipur crisis which has recently led to large scale violence in Jiribam district, the All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) has urged the Government to convene an immediate Assembly session to find a solution to the conflict.
The Assembly session should deliberate over the punishment to be doled out to the perpetrators responsible for the violence, number of houses and properties torched and make clear cut decisions on the next plan of action, said a press release issued by Th Shakti Devi, president, AMNM.
At this juncture, AMNM opined that the Chief Minister's impending visit to Jiribam may prove to be beneficial, but it will not resolve the conflict.
Referring to reports of displaced people living in pathetic conditions in Borobekra, ANMN questioned why the State Government has been unable to shift them to relief camps.
The AMNM press release further said that the displaced people should be given adequate security and returned to their respective homes safely.
When similar flare ups or crises happened between two communities outside Manipur, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have given their undivided attention.
However, in the case of Manipur, they have largely remained silent, said AMNM.
But a new administration has arrived with NDA 3.0 and the Lok Sabha polls have also concluded.
Thus, all efforts should be poured into bringing about a definitive solution to end the conflict still besieging Manipur, concluded AMNM.
