Moirang, May 08 2025:
The Moirang Kendra Loumee Sinrnee Amasung Nupi Lup staged a sit-in protest today at Sunusiphai Market Shed demanding the Government to stop Kukis from cultivating the paddyfields belonging to Meiteis.
They also urged the Government to take up steps to allow the Meitei community to carry out farming activities in the inaccessible paddy fields.
It is worth noting that these paddy fields have remained inaccessible and uncultivated since the beginning of the conflict in the State.
Speaking at the sideline of the protest, secretary of the Lup, L Manglem said that the paddy fields of Oinam, Leimaram, Wangoo, Kumbi and others under Moirang sub-division and periphery areas of the valley district owned by the Meitei community remain inaccessible and uncultivated for the past two years due to the violence in the State.
However, the sad part is that with the arrival of the sowing season, the paddy fields including the 20 Lou Pari of T erakhongshangbi-Tronglaobi Maning and 1000 Lou Pari of Wangoo Kumbi have been occupied and cultivated by the Kukis, said Manglem.
The protesters also called for revocation of the transfer order of the Deputy Commissioner and to release the compensation money for farmers whose paddy fields remain uncultivated.
