'Ghost' contractor finally traced

Imphal, June 06 2022: GG Rongmei, the contractor who is accused of swindling a huge amount of money out of funds sanctioned to Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) for taking up different projects has turned out to be a Corporator of IMC.

Notably, Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan earlier warned that different modes of agitation would be launched in association with the Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) if the IMC and the Government fail to bring out GG Rongmei by June 12 .

The Chairman and the Secretary of Langol Tarung village stated that there is no one by the name of GG Rongmei in their village.

Speaking to media persons in their committee room today, IMC care-taker Mayor L Lokeshore clarified that the full or real name of GG Rongmei is Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei and he is a son of one Khamsingam Gangmei who is a resident of Thangmeiband Tarung village.

Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei or GG Rongmei is presently the Corporator of IMC Ward No 1 .

As per records maintained by Manipur Police Housing Corporation, GG Rongmei is a special class contractor, Lokeshore said.

According to the care-taker Mayor, Corporator Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei came to the IMC today and admitted that GG Gaidon is himself.

The care-taker Mayor said that he would write to the authority concerned to take up necessary action against the IMC Ward No 1 Corporator.

He said that the engineering section has been instructed to execute all sanctioned works and complete all unfinished works at the earliest.

Lokeshore said that he would start inspecting all contract works which are being implemented through IMC.

Regarding allegation that Rs 10,000 was demanded while granting loans of Rs 1.50 lakh under the Housing for All scheme, the IMC care-taker Mayor invited formal complaints if any one has supporting evidence.
