Assessment of Thangal buildings from Aug 6

Imphal, August 03 2025: MAHUD Director Ngangom Uttam has said that assessment of Thangal Keithel buildings will begin from August 6.Speaking at an event held at IMC complex today, Uttam said that the eviction drive has been going on although it has been slowed down at Thangal Keithel.

The eviction drive has been slowed down at Thangal Keithel because there are many old buildings and it needs to be studied first whether these buildings will collapse when any section of them is demolished, Uttam said.

Assessment of buildings will start from August 6 under the supervision of the Imphal West Deputy Commissioner.

If there are buildings which may be badly damaged in the eviction drive, the owners will be given one to two months to dismantle the parts of their buildings which encroach upon Government lands.

As for the other buildings which do not pose any risk, the eviction drive will be resumed at the earliest, the MAHUD Director said.

IMC, MAHUD and the Town Planning Department will extend full support to the eviction drive.

The eviction drive will be carried out based on the width of roads as recorded in the maps of 1990/91 .

Saying that there will be no concession to any encroacher, the MAHUD Director appealed to all the people to support the eviction drive.

Due to encroachment upon drains and roads followed by construction of several structures, roads get water-logged when there is some rainfall and fire tenders cannot move in when fire breaks out.

All the citizens need to understand this situation resulting from brazen encroachment, he added.
