Imphal, September 01 2024:
Candidates who cleared NEET-UG examination 2024 in horizontal category (PwDs, sports, ex-servicemen) have disapproved of the way in which seats were allotted to pursue medical degrees by Medical Counselling Committee Manipur.
Speaking to the media at the office of AMMSO at Hatta, Aquil Gufran, one of the successful candidates said that the candidates who cleared NEET-UG 2024 examination in horizontal category are given the seat to study medical in a private hospital only which is far more expensive than a Government hospital after the counselling.
He said that 9 candidates cleared the examination in horizontal category.
Saying that they are only given the seat to study medical at SHIJA Hospital despite having a seat reservation for PwDs, sportspersons and ex-servicemen at Government medical institutes, he asked whether the Government has abolished the seat reservation.
He appealed to the Government to look into the matter and allow them to pursue medical degrees at Government hospitals.
The State Platform of Disabled People's Organisation (SDPO), Manipur also raised the similar issue.
In a statement, SDPO said that they met the officials of the Health Department and had also written to the State Commissioner for PwDs over the matter.
Not allowing the PwD candidates to pursue medical study at a Government hospital is a violation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the Organisation said.
