Imphal, February 01:
Finding meaningful employment in Manipur is not a joke but the bitterness of the experience is compounded when private agencies make a mockery of the aspirations of the young people looking out for some employment avenues.
Nothing illustrated this better than the interview called at New Hotel Airlines, MG Avenue opposite SBI main branch today.
The interview to shortlist candidates for Kingfisher Airlines (Cabin crew), Other Indian International Airlines and Guest Reception Executive was called today.
The first and the third are opened only to ladies while the second category was opened to both genders.
Advertisements placed in some of the State dailies including this paper said that the interview would be held from 1 pm to 5 pm and the contact points were given in the name of a Lady, C/o Tampha Photostat, MG Avenue and The People Channel, Kohima.
With the dress code clearly laid down in the advertisement a number of youngsters in smart attires came for the interview at 1 pm.
However the candidates were in for a rude jolt as the actual interview began only at about 3 pm, making them wait for an agonising two hours.
The reason doled out was that the Consultants had not arrived.
There were three Consultants who conducted the interview, one from Mizoram, one from Nagaland and the other from Manipur.
Each candidate had to also fork out Rs 100 as registration fee.
What is more, the number of candidates to be shortlisted was not mentioned anywhere in the advertisements placed.
The candidates were also not told how many of them would be selected.
Anyone was free to appear for the interview provided they possessed the documents specified in advertisement.
Clearly the job seekers in Manipur would not like to be treated so shabbily said some of the hopefuls today.
