Imphal, May 30 2014 :
In order to ensure the safety and security of people of the State in mainland Indian cities, the Manipuri Students' Association, Pune (MSAP) has urged the authority concerned to set up Manipur Bhavan or a Manipuri Hostel at cities where large presence of people of the State are felt.
Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, MSAP President Anthony Moirangthem said it is now time for all concerned to join hands in fighting racial discrimination against the NE people.
Expressing serious concern over the numerous reports of crimes against NE people in mainland Indian cities, Anthony said the State Govt should now wake up to the reality of racial discrimination against NE people in Indian cities and act accordingly.
The presence of many people in India who do not know the geographical location of Manipur is among the prime factors responsible for the racial discrimination against the people of NE, he said.
As such, Anthony demanded inclusion of the beautiful culture of NE people in the school curricula of Central Board and other States boards.
MSAP adviser, Thounaojam Bonbi- hari, who also addressed the press meet, said the association has submitted a representation to the Governor, Dy CM and Education Minister of the State demanding the State Govt to take up safety measures for people/students in other mainland Indian cities.
The MSAP has around 7500 members.
