Jiribam, January 30 2015 :
A team of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) along with its women wing and students wing members arrived at Jiribam on January 27 .
The team visited various places and took stock of the topographic features of Jiribam and its indigenous people.
Talking to media persons, JCILPS convenor H Ibotombi Khuman said that according to a report gathered during the visit, the team found out that more than 50 pc of Jiribam people are non-Manipuris, an alarming figure which can be taken as a cause of concern for the indigenous people of Manipur.
"Manipur constitutes 0.09 percentage of the country's population and if precaution is not taken up on time amid rising population of non-Manipuris in the State, Manipuri community will face a threat of extinction", Ibotombi said.
Demanding an immediate implementation of Inner Line Permit System at the western border of Manipur located at Jiribam as the influx is high in the area, he maintained that inter-State movement is not a problem since it has a legal binding in the Indian Constitution.
However, immigrants entering through Jiribam need proper verification for the welfare of indigenous people of Manipur.
Ibotombi also appealed the authority concerned to deport the immigrants in case they fail to produce proper identity proof and other necessary documents upon their entry.
