Imphal, April 21 2020: Social worker cum secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Pangeijam Saratchandra has kick-started distribution of edibles today to alleviate the shortage of edible items in Heingang Assembly Constituency amid the lockdown.

Saratchandra took off his noble campaign today at the office of Heingang Mayai Leikai Sports and Development Committee by visiting households in Heingang Mayai Leikai and distributing potatoes, edible oil, onions, salts and pepper.

The same work will be continued till the entire Constituency is covered, the social worker said while appealing all to follow guidelines issued by health authorities.

He also urged all to use face masks in case of venturing out and maintain a safe distance to avoid the transmission of the disease.

He also expressed relief on learning that there is no COVID-19 cases in the State with two individuals being completely cured from the disease.

He, however, expressed concern for those State natives stranded at various parts of India.

The social worker then went on to denounce the recent acts of discrimination meted out to the North East people at various places of mainland India and urged authorities concerned to take up necessary measures so that such discrimination does not happen in the future.

Distribution of edible items, water and other sanitary items were carried out in various places across the State today.

The two associations have no separate adequate funds but the help is being extended from the contributions of its members, said a press release issued by DDAM.

While stating that they could not cover all the differently abled persons in the State due to limited resources, the associations sought help from all concerned and philanthropists to support the differently abled persons who are daily wage earners.
