One allegedly beaten to death

Imphal, August 14 2016:
A 21-year old youth died while his elder brother sustained serious injuries after some miscreants allegedly brutally assaulted them at Khangabok Part-I area at around 5 am today, reports our correspondent.
The deceased has been identified as Md Abdul Kudush (21) s/o Md Hasim Khan while the injured has been identified as Md Firoz (23) of Hayel labuk, Thoubal district.
One Md Jakir (35), s/o Abdul Hak recounted that he along with Md Abdul Kudush and Md Firoz were on their way to Moreh to sell their respective bikes.
As they were approaching Khangabok Part-I road, they saw three individuals holding a hockey stick each and standing in the middle of the road.
The trio suspected something fishy so they decided to turn back and head home.
However, the three miscreants suddenly started thrashing Md Abdul Kudush and his elder brother Md Firoz.
They set one bike on fire and dismantled the other.
Md Abdul was rushed to Thoubal district hospital after which he was referred to RIMS.
He succumbed to his injury at around 12.30 pm today.
Md Firoz has been admitted to Shija Hospitals and is in critical condition.
All Un-employed Youth Self Bike Association, Manipur has threatened to impose an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh road if the authority concerned fails to pull up the three involved persons at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a JAC has been formed against the incident today.
JAC secretary Md Manoj while talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club said that the Government must nab the attackers within 48 hours.
He said that Md Abdul Kudush and his elder brother Md Firoz along with one of their friends namely from Md Jakir were on their way to Moreh on their new bikes when three persons armed with hockey sticks stopped them at Khangabok.
The trio were riding one bike each, he said.
They were asked to hand over all the money they had and started beating the two brothers, Md Manoj said.
After hearing the sound of shouting, some villagers of Khangabok came out and intervened.
However, the three persons kept on beating the two brothers accusing them to be thieves, he said.
They also set the two bikes ridden by the two brothers on fire, Md Manoj said.
He said that both the vehicles are registered in the names of the victims.
After the incident, Md Kudush succumbed to his injury while his brother is undergoing treatment in serious condition, Md Manoj said.
As Hayel Labuk and Khangabok are two neighbouring villages, there is need for maintaining understanding and peaceful co-existence, he said and added that such incidents would create serious misunderstandings between the two villages.
He said that in a public meeting, people of Hayel Labuk decided to press the Government to nab the culprits within 48 hours.
They also resolved to ask the villagers of Khangabok to hand over the attackers to the police.
He said that the JAC with the support of different civil society organisations would launch different forms of agitation if they do not receive any positive response to their demands.
