A house of a Congress candidate contested in the 15-Bungte Chiru ADC constituency of Sadar Hills District Council was set on fire in the early hour of today.
Meanwhile, fresh polling in 27 polling stations spreading over eight District Council Constituencies under Tamenglong district council was held today.
The polling was conducted by and large peacefully, officials said.
Police report said that the house of one ST Dinglar who contested the ADC election in Bungte Chiru DCC of Sadar Hills District Council was set ablaze at about 2 am by some miscreants.
The candidate himself was not in the house located Lower Bungte.
The raging fired totally gutted the kitchen part of the house but the main structure was saved from total destruction by the villagers.
Wife of Dinglar, Rengmuchim said that her husband there was an instance pressing her husband not to contest the election.
The structure that set on fire was used as kitchen of the family.
But she has no idea whether those persons were behind the arson attempt.
A girl of the family first showed the fire burning at the structure when she waked up and went out of her bedroom for answering natural call.
The fire was doused with the villagers at the neighbours who responded when alarmed by the family.
Meanwhile, fresh poll was conducted in 27 polling stations spreading over eight constituencies in Tamenglong district with heavy security.
The polling started at 7 am and went on till 3.30 pm.
Out of 27 polling stations four are in 7-Magulong DCC, five are in 8-Charamram DCC, one in 9-Oinamlong DCC, four in 16 Awangkhul DCC, four in 18-Longmai DCC, five in 19-Dolang DCC, one in 21-Longjan DCC and three in 24-Longpi DCC.
State Election Commission, mention may be made, ordered re-poll in a total of 39 polling stations in Tamenglong District Council after snatching of ballot boxes and burning down of ballot papers were reported in the second phase election held on June 2 last.
Fresh polls in the remaining 12 polling stations (five each in 1-Kuilong and 5 Lamlaba DCCs and two in 7-Magulong DCC are scheduled to hold on June 16 .
