Illegal poppy plantation in areas covering a total of around 146 acres in different locations of border area under Joupi Circle in Chandel district was destroyed in a massive joint operation carried out by security forces and NAB personnel from February 28 to March 2 .
The illegal poppy plants being destroyed were estimated to have yielded around 1460 kilograms which are valued at Rs 5, 84,00000 in the black market.
Based on specific information, combined team of security forces �troops of 32 AR of 28 Sector AR, District police Chandel and personnel of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), carried out a massive joint operation from Feb 28 to March 2 under the supervision of Ishak Shah, SP (NAB) .
According to SP (NAB), Ishak Shah, no one was present in the poppy cultivation areas during the operation which substantiated that the cultivations were illegal.

The team wiped out 30 acres of poppy plantation in Tupiching village; 35 acres in Joumal village; 20 acres in Hollenjang; 15 acres in Mombi and 6 acres in Shaluk village under Chakpikarong PS in Chandel district, the SP said in a statement.
The illegal cultivation was done on the foothills and slopes of the hillocks and on the river banks.
Different FIR cases have been taken up against the unknown accused persons for further investigation, the SP informed.
The security team, after destroying the plantations, held a meeting with villagers and sensitised them on the various ill-effects of poppy to human race.
The villagers were also persuaded to refrain from poppy cultivation.
The security team further suggested alternative means of cultivation for their livelihood sustainability and socio-economic upliftment, the SP added.
